Back in the mid-90s, I was an accounting major, taking classes at a community college, intending to transfer to a four-year school to continue learning and eventually become a CPA. I needed an elective and on a whim, I signed up for an Intro to Pascal course.

I enjoyed the class and had an aptitude for it, so I decided to switch majors, but through a series of unfortunate events, I ended up flunking out of school and then going back to DeVry. I did get a degree in Computer Information Systems, but as I later learned, the school isn’t highly regarded and that degree didn’t do me much good.

As a result, I ended up taking a job as a claims adjuster and leaving the technology field behind. However, recently, I’ve become interested in learning to code again, but this time to make stuff for my own use, rather than to get a job.

I have decided to start this journey by following the curriculum at freecodecamp.org.

Project one

My first project was a simple webpage:

Build a Curriculum Outline

Project two

The second project had me debug some simple html code and fix the errors.

Project three

My third project was to build a slightly more complex website promoting a Cat App:

Cat App Page

As another learning exercise, I plan to take what I’m learning in these tutorials and modify it to fit a project of my own:

Forkast App

That’s where I left off with today’s learning.
